Yeah, biology can be confusing. That's why I prefer physics. Things are always the same. Mass always equals force times acceleration. I like my universe to behave in predictable, orderly ways.

That's to reproduce whole organisms. That's why they each only have half the genetic material.

Of course, if you go look at bees, it gets stranger, because drones only have half the genes anyway and come from unfertilized eggs.
